(Draught at Indie Alehouse, Oct 12 2013) Pours a slightly hazy gold with a tiny white head, no lace. Aroma pale grainy malt, very typically Belgian saison yeast with light fruitiness, herbal/grassy, very little nut in the nose even if looking for it. Flavour follows on from the nose at first, pale malts with slight sweetness and grain, fruity Belgian saison yeast esters, clean and herbal without funk. Faint grassy bitterness throughout, but moreso towards finish. Finish is dry, a light nutty note becomes apparent there, more chestnut than hazelnut from the listed additions. Don’t know if I’d have noticed without looking for it a priori. Average saison body, fairly sharp carb but on style. This was a decent effort at a standard saison, but I can’t say the nut additions did much. Expected a darker, nuttier beer with saison yeast and was a bit disappointed.
