Since Day One, we've been abundantly forthright and fully transparent about our lust for hops. It's led us to craft many an IPA, most of them imperial—some intense for their time and all timeless in their intensity. For Stone Go To IPA, we embrace our hop obsession in a new way, funneling an abundance of lupulin-borne bitterness into a session IPA that delivers all the fruity, piney character of a much bigger IPA. To accomplish this, we employ hop bursting, a technique wherein an irrational amount of hops is added during the final phase of the brewing process to bring out extreme flavors and aromas while also imparting a burst of desirably pleasant bitterness. The result is an alpha-acid-rich beer that fans can enjoy more of without missing out on the assertive hop character you, like us, crave. So, sit back and go two with your new everyday go-to IPA and bask along with us in the glory of the almighty hop.

This beer employed the hop-bursting technique, which in essence is a hopping method where all or most of the bitterness in the beer comes from late hop additions in the brewhouse, like at the end of boil and in the whirlpool, instead of the more traditional approach where most of the hop bitterness comes from earlier additions at the start of the kettle boil. The result is a beautifully aromatic beer with substantial but somewhat mellow bitterness. Hop bursting also enhances the flavor retention of the hops, and combined with the dry hop, creates a very intense and complex hop flavor.

0.33 l can from ’Spritterei’ at 4.7% abv, brewed by Stone Berlin, best before December 2017. Minimally hazy, yellow with a large, foamy, stable, white head. Sweetish, very fruity, quite grassy and slightly floral aroma of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit. Slightly sweetish, moderately bitter, intensely fruity, grassy and a bit floral taste of lemon, pineapple, lemongrass and grapefruit, followed by a medium long, rather dry-bitter, grassy and a bit herbal finish. Almost medium-bodied, moderately effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Thirst-quenching and refreshing, quite good!

Can (Berlin) from a Prisma in Finland. Pours almost clear golden with a big head. Aroma is rich tropical fruit, mango, litchi, passion fruit. Body is light, very bitter, with a thin backbone, almost no sweetness. Rather soft texture and carbonation, with very little flavours remaining. Dry palate with a lasting bitterness. Really impressive nose, but afterwards too bitter that I would consider this my go to IPA.

Can from Asda, Farnborough. Floral and herbal aroma. Light gold. Thick bubbly head. Medium bitter. Lurking umami. Juicy citrus, but restrained. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft but light carbonation. Abrupt finish. Super drinkable. Doesn’t overdo things. Could certainly session a few of these.

Anaranjada, turbia de no demasiada espuma. Aroma muy intenso, muy lupulado. Mucho pino, predominante, resina. En boca punto perfecto de gas, y todo se llena de sabor, ahora con predominio cítrico y resinoso, e intensas notas de pino. Seca y bastante amarga, pero muy agradable y bebible. Excelente IPA de sesión.

Hazy golden beer, white head. Light lemon smell. Flavour is lemon, dry hop, grass, some piney resin which lingers into the aftertaste. Has a bit of a floral air to it. Quite a bit going on for a sessionable beer. Very pleasant.
