This award winning doppelbock (8.2% alcohol by volume) lager is brewed with a generous supply of Munich, carapils, caramel and chocolate malts and is fermented with Bavarian lager yeast. The resulting caramel sweetness and rich mouthfeel are complimented by the mild bittering of German Hallertau hops.

Bottle. Ruby color with a low off-white head. Roasty aroma. Roasty, caramel flavor with slight plum/raisin. Medium body. Lingering caramel/dried fruit.

Poured a medium murky brown with a quick setting off white head. Malty aroma, slightly floral as well. Very complex flavor, carmel and coffee notes but also brown sugar and nuts. Slightly malty as well. Extremely complex flavor which makes this a refreshing addition to the otherwise pedestrian Tommy Knocker line.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear, dark amber with a small, off-white head. Malty, vaguely vinous, tart nose. Solid, full-bodied with plenty of malt. Some notes of caramel. Slightly tart edge and a dry, lightly hoppy finish. 050506

Translucent brown pour with thin head. The aroma is sweet with a tartness on the side that is probably the alcohol. The flavor starts sweet - malts and caramel - and stays sweet throughout giving an impression of plum and an aftertaste of overripe banana. Yet there are hints of roasted malts and a bit of spice. And a slight bitter hop taste at the end. The alcohol is also evident in the finish. Thin body and moderate carbonation. If Celebrator is the standard for this style, then Butt Head is below that in balance and complexity. Still an above average beer.

This is good. Very much like Full Sail Boardhead or Lagunitas Brown Shugga. I am surprised they call it a bock; they might have called it an ale or a barleywine. This beer is opaque and brown. The head lasts as a thing ring, and there is a lot of sediment, especially for a style that so often has little or no sediment at all. There is an aroma of brown sugar, citrus-hops, and fermenting orange juice. Flavor is very sweet, but this has only a hint of the standard bock carmel and sweet malt. Instead, there is more sugar and fruit. Fairly thick. Quite good, especially for the low price, but not very bocky.

Bottle. Creamy chocolate/molasses malt aroma with moderate astrigency. Cloudy orange brown color with small head. Sweet molasses and port/sherry flavor - mild astringency to the finish. Much more sherry flavor and less astringent tartness than the German doppelbocks I’ve tried.

Bottle with "best by" notch of Dec-03, tasted 11/25/2005 but I think it’ll be enjoyable. Pours deepbrown with ruby highlights. Fizzy, but with no head. Smell of molasses and brown sugar. Taste has molasses to it, too. So it’s sugary, and there are bits of sherry, too, with a note of plum. With this much sweetness, it’s hard to distinguish any hops. I seem to keep picking up over-aged doppelbocks, but at least I like how they turn out.

on tap-pours a thin white head. Dark red color. Aroma is grain, sugary sweet. Taste is sweet, roasty malt, alcohol. Good, but not my style. Rerate 120208
