Care for some hops with your hops? Before we ferment our 5 Barrel Pale Ale, we strain it through a bed of 'em. Then while it ages, we add even more. We like how this gives the beer a fresh, lively finish. We like hops.

As we go about refining the recipe for each new beer, we brew up just five barrels at a time. That's exactly how we arrived at this pale ale -- so that's what we named it. Plus, it sounded a lot nicer than Giant Vat Pale Ale.

[Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival] A hazy orange beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and cascade hops. The flavor is sweet with quite a lot of hops dominating the impression, and giving it a bitter end.

Bottled. Deep orange, small head. Aroma of apricot and grapefruit. Medium sweet and medium bodied. Pleasantly hoppy, but less crisp than some of the best APAs, and also less bitter than many examples of the style.

Lightly hazy amber color, medium rocky head. Pleasing aroma focused on hops: grapefruit, floral, a touch of pine. Vaguely earthy and rustic. Balanced, with a fresh clean malt presence, tingly floral hops, and a finish that only mentions hops. Not very bitter at all, surprisingly. It might benefit from an extra dose of bittering hops but I think I enjoy the easy finish on this one. Something you could drink alot of, something that your non-ale drinking friends might be surprised to find they like. A good party pale ale. Would like to see on tap.

Cloudy orange pour that is inviting enough. The aroma is of hops and grain, though a bit muddled. Pleasant enough balance between bittering hops and sweet malts, but this flavor is not one to make your taste buds stand up and pay attention. There was a slight tendency toward a syrupy mouthfeel. Overall, nice drinking beer, slightly above average.
