Aarhus Bryghus Julebryg at 6% is the mild of our two Christmas seasonals. It is a Danish Christmas tradition to stick cloves in an orange and hang it from a silk ribbon. Imagine the orange hanging over the fermentation vessel and the ribbon bursting, and you get Julebryg. The acidity of the orange juice freshens up the beer. The cloves are just as discreet as they are in all the traditional Danish cold luncheon dishes, where it seems cloves are in almost every dish.

The beer thus is extremely suitable as an accompaniment to the Danish Christmas luncheon or for the unformal get-togethers that are so popular at Christmas time.

66 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden red with a lacing slight off-white head. Caramel malt, slight orange fruity and mild spiced aroma, not the strongest aroma. Has a mild breadish note too. Flavour starts sweet with an orange citric twist, has nice caramel malt mixing in with cloves. Medium bitterness in the finish. Nice and mild Christmas brew. Clearly shouldn’t be served too cold.

Draught. Cloudy caramel colour. Small creamy head. Clean flavour?! Hint of malt and flavour hops. Finally a clean beer from Aarhus Bryghus, but unfortunately uninspired.

Draft af Stiften, Aarhus. Strange beer. One of very few I coudnt drink. It tastes of very bad medicíne. and terpentine. Nice darkbrown colour though, and ok head, but smell and taste? Not good

An unclear brownish beer with a red shine and a light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, but also hints of plastic and cloves. The flavor is a weird spicy one combined with notes of plastic, leading to a dry end with light notes of chocolate and wood. I think something is wrong with this beer, but how can a masterbrewer like Niels Buchwald put an infected beer on the market?
