Premium quality pale ale malt, with an extra proportion of crystal malt, and increased hops, gives this beer its renowned ‘nutty’ flavour and punch. Very much a cruiserweight, it catches up with you unawares! First brewed in 1982, the beer takes its name from the numerous beech trees synonymous with the area.

Bottle from Micro Beer Crate. Pours a clear amber with small off-white head, some retention. Quite fruity in the aroma with dried fruits, citrus, citrus peel, raisins, malts. Nice. Taste of caramel malts dominates at first then dried fruits, citrus peel, floral resin, moderate bitter bite in the finish. Nice smooth medium body for the strength. Very good bitter in my book.

500ml bottle bought as part if a delivery from the brewery and drunk at home. Iced tea brown, clear with a little bit of off-white head. Light aroma of caramel and oak. Taste is sweet, oaky, slightly tangy. So subtle yet so good. And fantastic with food. Gentle body with medium carbonation. Chiltern haven't exactly set my world alight but this is a fucking excellent best.

Bottle as Supermarine, relabeled for Imperial War Museums. Thanks Dušan I reckon for sharing this! Golden body, off-white head. Oxidized aroma, red apples and rice. Smells a bit like a rice lager. Lean, sweet taste, that rice-like presence as well, light minerally and herbal notes, dusty... not the best of shapes... Will probably rerate if I find it fresh, especially on cask.
