Bottle on the train from Hereford to Inverness, thanks to SP, 18/10/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is roast malt, cardboard, earthy cocoa. Taste is a little subdued, dark fruit, toffee, light malt base. Medium to light bodied, a little watery, dry finale. Not great - lacks both depth and body.

Lovely coffee aroma, same in its aftertaste but with a large hint of vanilla as well. Mild in the palate.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A dark brown beer with a red shine under a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt as well as hints of soy sauce.

Bottle from Bacchus, Crickhowell. Dark, ruddy brown in colour with a short lived, off-white head and slight carbonation. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Easy drinking, with more chocolate, a touch of fruity sweetness and an ashy, dry finish. Excellent.

[500ml bottle from Tesco Haverfordwest] Black with russet hints and a slight cream head. Loads of chocolate and brown sugar, with some coffee and smoke in there too. Slightly sticky and metallic aftertaste detracts from what is otherwise an excellent mild.
