Mayflower Porter is a rich, complex brew that is smooth and full-flavored. Five varieties of malted barley provide notes of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate with a hint of smokiness.

Porter pours into the glass a dark chocolate hue with some amber highlights. The creamy head is a latte-tinted froth which sticks around and laces nicely as you finish your pint. As you tilt the glass towards you, you are met with subtle hints of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and wood fire smoke. The flavors coming out of the glass mimic the aromas. You’re met with waves of dark chocolate cake, rich dark espresso, and light smoke from your bonfire. This porter has a medium body and an average carbonation for the style. It finishes dry, leaving you wanting another sip. This beer is to be enjoyed to its fullest illuminating the dark winter months of New England.

Bottle from Epsom Circle Market in Epsom, NH. Aroma is roasted malts with chocolate, hints of burnt toast and alcohol. Appearance is dark--mainly black but dark red amber when backlit. Small tan head on pour but dissipates fairly quickly except at edges. Taste is mild up front but moderately bitter with coffee overtones in the middle and mild chocolatey sweetness toward the end and coffee bitterness at the finish, which is long. Palate is just shy of medium bodied--a little lighter than expected and a little more carbonated than expected, with mild-to-moderate creaminess. Overall, there is a lot going on here from start to finish on many different levels. It doesn’t hit a home run on all of them but is well above average and would definitely have again and would recommend.

On tap at the Book & Bar, Portsmouth, NH. An attractive deep chestnut colour with a ring of cream head; aroma of coffee and drinking chocolate; rich fruity coffee taste; and a satisfying finish. A really good porter.

Rcvd in trade.
The appearance is a pitch black colored body with a slim white one fingered foamy head that drops to a speckled sticky foamy lacing.
The smell has a delicately balanced coffee to chocolate - a nice gentle burnt and roastiness.
The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma with a crisp dry roasty chocolatey aftertaste and just a dry finish.
The palate sits fairly light on the body with a gentle sessionability to it. Carbonation is slightly smooth but also shows some harshness to keep one from pounding it.
Overall, what a nice English Porter, probably the best one I’ve had today by Mayflower as I would definitely have this again.

Draft at GBBF 2013 - London. Pours brown with a light, beige cream head. The nose has toasted brown bread and raisins. Light sweet flavour with dry brown bread and faint, earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish of toasty bread and dirt, along with accents of dark fruits. Solid effort here.
