Sun Inn, Kelvedon. Cask. Clear copper colour beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, fine carbonation. Malts provide tangy caramel. Spicy esters. Bitter floralness. Mild marmalade. Some very light dusted sugar candy fruits. Smooth finish. Pretty tasty.

Bottle from Lidl. Copper-brown with a very thin head. Has a small hoppy nose and a fairly bland malt-hop taste with a small sweetness and small bitterness.

(Cask at Edgar Wallace, Strand, London, 8 Apr 2014) Reddish brown colour with dense, beige head. Malty nose with notes of chocolate, caramel, dark fruit and toffee. Malty taste with caramel, chocolate, toffee, a touch of cherries and a slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced and quite tasty. Nice one.

500ml bottle from Rhythm and Booze - A good looking beer, deep russet with a pillowy white head. Nose is a little metallic, lots of caramel. Taste is equally metallic, a big malty kick. Nothing to write home about.

Bottle from Lidl 121212
Copper brown, clear, big frothy white head, good lacing
Aroma - Caramel malts, some rust, bit skunky
Taste - Caramel malts, Shep yeast, hint of fruit, bitter woody hops, cinders
Palate - Soft carb, thinnish body. Finish - bitter hops, rust, lingering rather metallic bitterness
Overall - Below average bitter. 5 sips - threw rest of bottle out. The tasting notes are ridiculous

Clear 50ml bottle, brewed I believe for Saint Georges Day (23rd April 2010): drank on 18th June from an ’Old Speckled Hen’ Vase shaped pint glass. Mahogany and clear in colour and appearance, bubbly off-white head, fairly thin covering. The aroma has more malt than hop esters, a faint caramel/toffee smell hides the hops almost completely. The taste is again, like the smell, more malt flavours than a hop content. Malted Barley, Oats, Rye and Wheat are all used in the brew, a later hop bitterness appears (Goldings) to balance out the beer. This is one of the ’Master Brewer’s Choice’ selection of beers, pleasant but no world beater. Most likely a lot better in cask form.

50cl bottle from Lidl, Crowthorne. Copper with a dense cream head; typical SN malty aroma; light malt flavour with some caramel; and some herbal hops before a biscuity finish. Very drinkable.

cask, it was my third "dragon" ale of the day because hey, it was St. George’s Day - Pours light amber and smells of sweet malt with a bit of caramel and some earthy hops. The flavor is quite sweet with caramel malt joined by mild hops bitterness. It’s light to medium bodied and overall average at best.
