Ever since the Viking era, the Christmas beer tradition has been strong in Norway. As stated in the 'Gulatingsloven' (a regional law text valid until 1274), every farmer was bound by the law to brew beer for Christmas and christen it according to the new faith, otherwise running the risk of losing his assets to the king and bishop. The Christmas beer was normally brewed from the best grain of the season and would be strong with a rich malt flavour. Ringnes Juleøl Sterk (Christmas Strong Beer) is a modern version of the traditional Norwegian Christmas beer of higher alcohol content.
With a deep mahogany colour, Ringnes Juleøl Sterk has a rich malty aroma marked by dry caramel, toffee, chocolate, dried dark berries and nuts. The taste is rich with and full-bodied with a low, but smooth bitterness.

Utseende mørk brun med rødskjær og beige skum. Aroma og smak malt mørke frukter brød krydder. Fyldig smaksrik julestemning. Flaske kjøpt på Vinmonopolet Jekta, 33cl 6,3% BF190919 Edit 2020 version, plomme i smaken, mye smak, kanskje litt for mye smak

On tap @ Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours dark brown with little beige head. Aroma of chocolate, dark bread, nuts, caramel, make, honey, spices, raisins. Tastes quite sweet, some bitterness in the finish. Somewhat boring, but an OK Norwegian Christmas beer.

Deep brownish color with a fine tan head. Nutty, toffee and some dried fruits in the aroma. Medium + body. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. A bit oily texture. Toffee, nutty, caramel and fruity flavor. Decent traditional Norwegian Christmas brew.
