Best Bitter. Previously known as Posh Pooch.
Our flagship Bitter pours a rich copper colour with a sweet malt taste and toffee notes. This is perfectly balanced with the hops providing a sharp bitterness, with a strong citrus and tropical fruit aromas.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Islington, London, 28 Nov 2015) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of apricots, grainy malt and toast. Malty, slightly fruity taste with toast, apricots, dark bread and a finish with a balanced bitterness and slightly dusty hops. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well balanced bitter. quite nice.

Cask at the Claret, Croydon. It pours clear amber with a small, bubbly white head. The nose is earthy, toasty grain, cereal leather and mild citrus. The taste is bitter-sweet, sweet tropical fruits, grapefruit, gooseberry, earth, leather and a touch of caramel with a drying finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice sweet fruits on the taste. Not a game-changer, but drinks easy.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 7/7/2014. Deep gold with a frothy, off-white head. Sweet, husky, cereals, a touch of citrus hop and moderately bitter finish. So so drinking.

500ml Bottle conditioned: BBD Mar 2014, poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 31 July 2013. Dull golden colour, with an off-white head. The nose and taste came across as hoppy, bitter, dry, slightly fruity (mixed), toast, some wood notes, with a mild grapefruit finish. Nothing took over the tasting: a pleasant enough blend, but lacked a bit of character and depth. The cask version might be better?

500 ml bottle sampled in 2008. Hazy golden body with an off-white head. Strong aroma of grapefruit, other fruits and bubblegum. Flavor has some caramel malt, fruit, something that feels almost chemical and moderate bitterness. Thin and watery body, aftertaste feels almost dead. Something might be wrong here but it’s not too obvious what it is.

Draft at the Row Barge, Guildford. I liked this beer! In common with other Ascot ales, it has little carbonation. The head was short lived and that disappeared with any lingering lace. A hint of malt in the fruity aroma and a citrus overtones in the flavour which made quite a refreshing change. Many people from across the pond would turn their noses up at this flat warm beer, so it's good that there's quite a few of us on this side of the world that appreciate this style of ale! One for a session no doubt! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Copper colour. Has an aroma and flavour close to that of over boiled carrots. It’s quite sweet but lacks further depth of flavour.
