A biscuit malt backbone followed by waves of citrus hops make for a wonderful English Golden ale.

Cask @ Urban Tap House, Cardiff. Dark gold with a big creamy head. Aroma is a bit shy but comes out eventually: lemon and birchwood with a bit of autumn leaves. The Goldings really come out in the aroma. Moreish taste of bittersweet followed by an almost vegetable umami. Tasty. Nice full body for a golden cask ale. Everards, Charlie Wells, GK et al: thus us how you do it.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. A dour gold coloured ale with a creamy head. A touch dry, it has a breaded character, some grain and biscuit, not high on flavour with a small hop evident in its nose.

Cask at the Watford Beer Festival 2013. Poured a clear, dark golden colour with a thin, rocky white head. Aroma of orange peal, spice and citrus. Sharp citrus flavours balanced with some chewy malt and peach sweetness. Palate was balanced grain, grassy hop and caramel. Perfectly drinkable, but nothing mind blowing.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Amber with a ring of white head; leafy hoppy aroma; soft and sweet in the mouth with a touch of honey and orange fruit; the finish is fresh and nicely hopped with a slight touch of spice.

Cask at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A golden coloured pour with a decent white head on top. Hoppy, citrus fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, fruity, malty. Would make a decent session beer.

Cask, handpump at The Three Tuns, Bristol, 28.01.12 Pours gold edging towards amber with a white head, excellent clarity. Nice beer with decent hoppy overtones, fruity and uncomplicated, but strikes me as being more of a pleasant session beer than something that I could wax lyrical over. A6 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5
