On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazy copper with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is toffee, toasted malt, licorice, dark fruit. Slick body, butterscotch, earthy malt, licorice, boozy finish, very good.

Draft at the source, staff choice. Cloudy to murky amber. Vinous dark fruit aroma. Taste is malt forward fruity port wine. Very nice

Purchased in Vermont in their mixed pack. Pours a clean dark amber colour, almost copper. Small head, beige with not much follow-up. Beautiful spices in the nose with the barley malt, fruitiness and hints of molasses. Fruity flavours with malt, light sweetness and decent bitter hop in the finish. Quite easy to drink. Surprised to find a barley wine in a taster pack. Glad though.

Tap at Reservoir, Waterbury. Colour is clear dark copper with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some dry fruits, some sweetness and malts. Very boring. I don’t get point of this one.

This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a dark hazy amber color with a slim quarter finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated within seconds.
The smell starts off with a semi-sweet cooked caramel malt trying to blend with light vanilla and herbal/tea-like qualities running over some light cooked cocoa tones.
The taste pretty much copies the aroma decently. There’s no aftertaste but it does have a slight smooth semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation hits just a tad harder than other Barleywines I’ve had.
Overall, mostly average barleywine with a mouthfeel that probably could be tamed a tad more.

Sample at Rock Art, very clear amber color, fast dying head. Aroma is stale English malts, caramel, mild toffee and house yeast. The flavor is much the same. Very mild example of a barely wine. Well, it did start over 10 years ago...

Taster at the source pours amber with an off white head. Aromas of fruit malt caramel and light florals. Taste is sweet with carmel notes and a slightly bitter finish.

New England Bucket List Trip Beer #106. Keg at the brewery. Pours a clear copper with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, toffee, mild toasted malt, floral notes. The taste is dry toffee, herbal hops.

Pours a medium reddish copper color with a smallish off white head that quickly dissipates to a ring on top. Smells of caramel toffee and light bready grainy malt. Light sulfur and a hint of earth with a light butterscotch round out the nose. The flavor is biscuity bready grainy maltiness with bits of toffee and butterscotch. Light earthy hops flavor with a bit of sulfur provides a counter the the malty sweetness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice enough barleywine, the bready maltiness is nice but the toffee butterscotch is a bit too much on my palette.

From a 12 bottle shared at home. Vintage 2005. Pours smoky sour dark cherries in the nose. Surprisingly thin textured, with some chocolate and toffee notes. So, so. Maybe better fresh?
