Among the undergrowth of the new Danish breweries Brown Ale was one of the most popular beers. And we understand here in Amager. Brown Ales are affected both nice to look at and pleasant to drink. In typical fashion Amager Brewery, we have given ourselves to pep the classic brown ale recipe up a bit of both to look deeply into malt and hop sacks pots. We ended up brewing in Munich, amber, chocolate and caramel malts and spice with English Challenger hops for bitterness and American Willamette and Cascade, so there is something nice to taste and sniff. And then we just gave the beer a splash of brown sugar. The result is a beer with classic brown ale characteristics of nøddetoner, a warm and deep orange-brown color and a slight edge of bitter chocolate. But because it is from Amager, it has just a little more of everything, why we think it deserves a dignified name like "Amager Imperial Brown Ale". We hope you will enjoy it.

bottle at home ... man im enjoying this ... little over fizzy ... nice brown ... thin tan head ... sweet fruity malt roast nose ... tasty fruity malts ... chocolaty ... good roast ... just rich complex and drinkable.

(Bottle, batch #82 BBE 02/2010, at Pikkulintu) Poured dark brown and lightly hazy. Head was medium sized and white. Aroma contained malts, chocolate and hops. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, chocolate, molasses, hops, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and mildly bitter. I suppose this would have been better had it been fresher.

Bottled. A dark red-brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, dark malts, cookies, bread, grain, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of nuts and caramel, as well as medium notes of bread, cookies, brown sugar, and a bit of spices, leading to a sweet finish where notes of caramel and bread lingers for a long time.

Medium light brown head. Dark red body. Chocolatey wooden roasty caramel aroma with floral notes. Dry-sweetish alcoholic roasty peas and wood taste with apple and fruit notes. Mid-bodied. Hot alcoholic mouthfeel. A bit too much alcohol. Dryish alcoholic aftertaste with chocolatey wooden grain notes. (0.5l bottle, Ølbutikken, Copenhagen.)

Bottle, bought @ De Molen. Deep dark brown color. Malt and licorice in the aroma. Sweet flavor with cinnamon, licorice and touches of yeast. Earthy hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Touches of alcohol. Not really worth a rebuy, considering the prize tag.

Bottle bought from plan-b. dark brown, smooth light brown head. very malty, very hoppy, very toffee like aroma. flavor is slightly sour, malty, hoppy, but they stay in the background (the hops),, powerfull flavor, the slight sourness is a pity, but reading rates here i see there might’ve been some bad bottles. the sourness disturbs, but is not so strong that you can’t sense the great brew this was, when it was fresh.

100ml on tap at CBF 09. Nice, partial cloudy, dark-brown body. Naked, shining surface. Modest flavour of sweet malts. Blended taste of pale and dark malts, some nuts and a bite of chocolate and caramel with subdued bitter hops appearing towards the ending. Pleasant drinkability, without being that exciting (17.05.2009).

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and hoppy aroma. Roasted malty chocolate flavor with some hoppy hints and also some hints of coffee. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with a hoppy bitter aftertaste.
