30 jaar Erasmus 1977-2007

(Draught at Erasmus, Brugge, on 2008-05-21) Orange colour and cloudy. Big white bubbly head. Sweetish nose with some yeast. Fizzy palate and somewhat dry. Hops and yeast and fruitiness in taste. Bitter aftertaste.

Cask at Erasmus 04/2008... Bottle. Unclear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy, excellent lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, orange - citrus, moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (280208)

Second Batch/ Draught. Beer mentioned on the menu as "Dertig" High, off-white head leaving textbook lace over cloudy, dark-orange beer. White candi sugar, sweet-alcoholic, a bit of fresh garden herbs, hops and a touch of ureum. Dry, lots of malts body under a serious hoppy flavour. To get this second batch this hoppy with mainly aromatic hops, they must have used a d*mn lot of it. A bit of varnish, alcohol and fusels, and resins, including typical hopresin. Very good balance. Dry, alcohol, a bit slick and medium to well-bodied. Maybe a tad heavy for a session beer, but its excellent balance might induce you to have a second - or a thirthy-first.
