Bottle @ benzai. Dark ruby to brown colour with a medium to large sized off-white to beige head. Smells anice, iron, herbs, spices, sweet, hint of liquorice. Tastes anice, herbs, spices. I really don’t like anice. Medium to full body, nice carbo.

Bottle. Pours opaque brownish black with medium light brown head. Aroma is ammonium chloride, smoked ham, hay dust, red grapefruit, vinegar and lemon. Taste is medium bitter and light acidic. Body is oily with good carbonation. Finish is long and bitter-sweet with notes of licorice, anise, caramel, grapefruit, resin and dandelion. Nice but not very Christmas-like.

Bottle at home. One year old. Has a black colour with a medium, light brown, creamy head. Nice roasted aroma with dark chocolate, ash, coffee and oak. Lots of roasted malt in the flavour. Hints of licorice and anise. Nice. Smooth and rich mouth feel, and a light to medium bitterness. A nice roasted stout.

Medium sweet with roasty and spicy flavours and a moderate bitterness. Medium body with a slightly soft carbonation. Nice and flavourful stout with some spicy notes.

500 ml bottle purchased @ Julio’s Liquors. This bottled was cellared since November. Inky black color without any head to speak of. Nose is chocolate, ash and licorice.Taste is heading more towards a Porter than a stout but still good. Anise, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and some hops. Finish is lots of dry roast and is medium bodied. The holiday spice shows in the finish as well. Easy enough to drink and delivers what you would expect.
