Ever since the Viking era, the Christmas beer tradition has been strong in Norway. As stated in the 'Gulatingsloven' (a regional law text valid until 1274), every farmer was bound by the law to brew beer for Christmas and christen it according to the new faith, otherwise running the risk of losing his assets to the king and bishop. The Christmas beer was normally brewed from the best grain of the season and would be strong with a rich malt flavour. Ringnes Juleøl (Christmas Beer) is a modern version of the traditional Norwegian Christmas beer of average alcohol content.
Ringnes Christmas Beer has a golden red colour with a malty aroma marked by caramel, freshly baked bread and raisins. The beer has a light, smooth malty sweetness and a low, yet noticeable bitterness.

Bottled (from Kiwi Hesseng). Amber colour, mediumsized off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts and some slight toffee and floral tones to it. Flavour is sweet malts, toffee and some mild floral tones. Not that much bitterness, but indeed a quite typical Nordic Xmas beer.

Bottle at Bjrk, Bod. Pours a deep, clear reddish colour with light brown, medium head that fades fast. Sweet aroma of dried fruit and berries, caramel, wood, and some roasted malt, chocolate and a little metal. The flavour is a light version of the same with more leather, wood and berries, and is still pretty sweet. Has a slick mouth feel, and a light bitterness. An okay, light and sweet Christmas beer.
