Russian Imperial Stout
Propeller's version weighs in at a whopping eight percent alcohol content, with a deep, rich, black colour. The taste of alcohol is well masked by the intense hop bitterness, extreme roasted malt and dark fruit notes.

Black color; medium sized creamy head. Very nice aroma of roasted malt, milky, with notes of leather and cocoa nibs. Reasonable body strength, even if more was expected; good flavor, dominated by the roasted malts, with some liquorice finish. Strong bitterness, mostly coming from the roasted malts, and still a milky trace. Very good.

500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of smoked malt, with some light chocolate and vanilla notes. The flavour reveals this smoked malt upfront, with some breadiness, a little iodine but not dominating, with even subtler chocolate. Quite nice, though subpar for impy stout.

Almost black. No real head. This beer has a meaty, cheesy richness like the counter at Oyama Sausage in the Granville Island market. I probably should have used a Halifax reference, I know. There’s a gorgeous dark fruit note with a nice nutty malt accent. It’s a shade thinner than I’d like in the body but the dark fruits and sweet malts are very nice. It’s got a nice, fairly bright character, but the aroma promised more richness and in that respect I felt a little let down.

A deep dark stout with a super thick dark moka head, resilient. Aroma of chocolate, plums, light vinous notes, with ashen quality. In mouth, a rich black coffee and bitter chocolate, with notes of licorice and soy. Rich and warming, with good alcohol burned. A very nice offering. Bottle from Probstk, more than one year old.

341 ml bottle from Porterhouse! New Province sampled! Nose of chocolate, vanilla, and some light raisin notes; black with a medium tan head; flavor is heavy coffee and light chcolate where the nose was heavy chocolate, flavor also containing some molasses and caramel; finish is lightly fruity raisins and a mild bitter note. Darn good RIS!

Bottle. [ Courtesy of OKBeer ] Clear dark black color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark chocolate, licorice, dark fruit. Flavor is moderate to heavy bitter and light sweet with a long duration. (Bitternes is chocolate / malt bitter, soft and smooth). Body is full to medium, texture is oily / creamy, carbonation is soft. ;o)) (081007)

Bottle courtesy of Okbeer: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice big foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate and subtle coffee is interesting but a tad weak. Taste of light bitter chocolate and coffee is more subtle then expected with some medium roasted malt. Body is oily and even a bit watery; I was expecting a fuller body as well as more of a creamy texture. Overall, while this is an interesting IS I thought it lack some complexity and the body was a bit too watery. I wonder if a got a bad bottle considering the high rating that this beer received or maybe I don’t appreciate the style as much as others.
