Cask @ Charlie’s Bar. Balck colour with a brown head. A little sweet malty aroma with some fruitiness. Flavor is malty and fruity, hints of licourice and raisins. Smooth mouthfeel and a nice malty finish.

(Bottle 50 cl) Deep black, almost no head or carbonation. Although stronger than a typical Mild this is fairly light-bodied. Strongly roasted notes, yet mild and smooth with only a vague bitterness. Nice and very quaffable. 250302

Bottle conditioned, a dusty 500 ml bottle at Plan B, Copenhagen, august 2005 - "best before" date was Oct. 2004! Tasted definitely a bit "off". Black colour, low head. Weak roasty aroma and flavour. Sourish and thin. Very disappointing, as my expectations were high. Will need to rerate a fresh bottle or cask.

This bottle was really old (probably 98-02). Pours a dark brown bottle conditioned and unfiltered with a medium sized milk chocolate brown head. Wow, head on a gales beer? Very bubbly, obviously taken good care of. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, sticky caramel, a hint of light coffee. Big hint of cinnamon and nutmeg, where’s that coming from I wonder? Flavor is similar; sticky caramel, light bubbly coffee, with a firm carbonation and some milk chocolate. Hmmm, quite good, with a medium body, no hop apparency and just a well homogenized flavor. Perhaps a good deal too sticky sweet and thin as has been mentioned, but that’s gale’s consistency for you. I’m still in shock that there was a big mocha colored head.

Dark brown color. Grassy nose; good caramel body, quite sweet, with a pretty long bitterness. Pleasant Mild.

Dark brown color, poor head. Strange aroma, sweet, candies, caramel. Bitter, average body structure, caramel, dry final, poor.

Deep, reddish brown in color, with a frothy, tan head, nice lace - aroma of yeast, chocolate - flavor is initially bitter, almost tart - bitterness subsides and flavors of bread (or pastry) and some subtle notes of dark fruit - chalky texture that is quite unenjoyable - finish tastes like I imagine cola without the sugar added would taste - nothing special.

Good mild appearance with a lightly hopped aroma and a very mild flavour. An average beer, very sweet.

[cask at Cockney pub in Århus] A brown almost black beer with a small light brown head. The aroma is very faint with hints of the malt, fruit and a bit smokey. The flavor is really good - a lot better than the aroma promises - it is soft and filled with malt and fruit notes. A very nice beer.

Tried it cask-conditioned. Almost completely black, a faint taste and aroma of licorice together with a light body.
