Pours a dark, clear amberbrown. Creamy white, persistant head. Scent is very mild indeed. Traces of caramel malts? Taste is fairly full, very creamy, touch bitter over crystal malts. All in fine balance - lovely and very drinkable. Classic mild. Love this beer !

Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. This was one of the beers that really made me question Protz's judgement. Was still drinking pints at the time and left most of it. Purchased at their Soho pub.

Handpull cask at the George IV, Sawbridgeworth. Golden brown, clear with a foamy white head and lots of lacing. Nutty and slightly astringent nose. Toffee, caramel. Taste is bittersweet with a sweetness from the malt balanced by a bitter tang from the hop. Some sulphur in the aftertaste. Probably much better as a light mild. Hops seem out of place somehow.

Cask at the Woolpack - I believe that this is a pale mild and it certainly has a level of sweetness that you would associate with the type. No real hops, just quite an overpowering sweetness that I didn’t enjoy. Creamy mouthfeel, but I think that was due to the tap.
