Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear russet with a foamy, off-white head. Big toast and leaf aroma with notes of toasty caramel and twigs. Smokey flavor, like cigarettes almost, with light sweetness, faint burnt sugar, wood and ash. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Smokey finish, lightly sweet with some mild cured and burnt meat and burnt sugar. Lasting tobacco smoke. Interesting beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Lord Moon of the Mall (JDW), London 11/02/10. Chestnut-red in colour with a frothy, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and cherry aroma. Flavour was verging on the sickly sweet, with a full mouth feel of toffee and syrupy fruit. Not so good.

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto, JDW, Folkestone. Deep ruby colour, lasting creamy beige head. It’s an odd fruity beer, almost as though it has some raspberry alcopop in it. Odd and not very nice really. Like a ruby ale with a raspberry belgian fruit ale stuck on it. No bad flavours, just not very good. Did not want to finish the half pint to be honest.

Bottle. Weak, sweet, dried fruit aroma. Very dark brown colour. Almost no head. The flavour is sweet with an acidic feel, turning dusty and creamy.
