Bah Humbug is a brew using not just the traditional malted barley and hops, but also a big sprinkling of cinnamon. The effect of the cinnamon is to give a spicy, almost banana-like flavour as often found on German wheat beers; and this blends with the sweet-honeyed flavours of the Maris Otter barley to create a beer with all the fruit flavours of mince pies, Christmas Pudding and Christmas cake all rolled into one.

A pleasant surprise to find this one on cask at the (new) Flying Horse (JDW) at Gatwick Airport, Clear amber coloured body, covering white head, rich lacing on the glassware. Inviting smell of brown malts. Well blended taste of caramel, bread and cinnamon. Smooth malty ending. Like it. (14.01.2019).

From cask at Flying Horse, Gatwick Airport, 11.01.19. Clear mahogany. Dense and persistent beige head and lacing. Aroma and taate of dark crystal malt and figs. A slight hint of sourness may indicate the the cask is slightly over the top.

Cask @ White Swan, Hebden Bridge. Dark amber with a creamy head. It's mildly ginger spiced in its taste, with a spiciness in its nose too, in an easy texture.

Bottle: Almost clear, reddish amber coloured, small but stable off-white foamy layer, sweetish fruity-malty nose with distinctive traces of cinnamon, shy hops in the background; moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied, not soft; shorter, pretty sweet finish dominated by X-mas spices. Could not finish it...

Qualitatively it's a decent ale. However the sweet spiciness is not to my taste.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Neat off white head. Nose - raisins, general cakiness. Taste - raisins, prunes and burnt bread. Palate - medium bodied and crunchy. Dry crunchy finish. Overall - a bit gnarly but good.

50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 09.08.2019
Aroma has toffee, nuts and sweetish malt. Flavour has nuts, sweet toffee, some english hops and malt. Quite typical British malty ale.
