2017 bottle. Nice lace head on pitch black. Nose is maple, vanilla, honey, chocolate, berris, flowers. Very seet, maple and honey, slightly dirty finish. Light barrel. Too young I think. It is nice, but a bit too boozy and too sweet.

Bottle. Pours opaque black, small brown head, dissipates fairly slowly, good lacing. Aroma is mocha, bourbon, vanilla, dark sugars. Not really maple. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter, a bit biting, bourbon notes, vanilla. bakers cocoa. Full body, hot.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma seems maple over dark treacle. Full bodied. Flavor is dark treacle, and some light maple, except somehow the maple dominates the treacle. A mystery that turns out well in the end. It’s sort of clean in its way - not really getting any chocolate except a very light note. Heat is not an issue. Wood doesn’t seem to be part of the mix. As the level goes down there’s a bit of irregular lacing. Halfway through the glass I think I’m finding chocolate that’s substantive. Very nice ale. Very.

On tap and American Craft Beer Experience. Pitch black color. Little head. Nice nose of maple, bourbon, molasses, licorice and dark chocolate. The mouth has low carbonation. Very smooth and modestly sweet. Alcohol is super well hidden. Good amount of bourbon, Maple, dark chocolate, licorice and molasses. Super well integrated. A work of art. Of all the eclipse I’ve had this is clearly the best

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours black with medium beige head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strong maple, roast, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla. Thick, chewy, roast, similar flavors to nose, nice sweetness, very balanced, enjoyed this.

Poured from a 22 oz beer. Aroma is classic eclipse with lots of chocolate and light roast with hints of honey. Light oak notes. Maple is light but becomes a bit more pronounced as it warms. Pours black with a medium sized, fairly thick and creamy, light mocha head that shows really nice retention as it slowly recedes to a thin film that lingers on the edges and in the center. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is rather sweet with lots of chocolate with some dark chocolate. Some light roast notes with light honey and caramel. Medium light maple notes. Medium bitterness with some light oak notes. Hints of alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and slightly silky with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer but a bit more maple would make it an amazing beer. It’s classic eclipse with chocolate, honey and oak. The mouthfeel has gotten much better in the past couple years and continued with this year.
