Imperial Stout + Wine Barrels + Time

The decadence in this beer is derived from our imperial stout base of Wildebeest. It's been accentuated by a hint of acidity and fruit character picked from its barrel ageing in Pinot Noir barrels for upwards to 2 years!

Tap (Szynkarnia, Wrocław). Black with short, brown head. Aroma is full of chocolate, wine and wodden notes of barrel, intense and very nice. Roast, chocolate and wine with sweet-sour wine-barrel finish, a little bit wodden as well. The beer is full of barrel notes, full body, smooth with completely hidden booze. Very tasty in overall.

(Keg at St Urhos Pub Portteri ja Stout-päivät 2018) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, vineousness and fermented cherries. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, vineousness, fermented cherries, sweetness, tartness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, tart and bitter. A well done strong burnt brew with tart cherry notes.

01.02.2018, tap @ Apollon:
Small light brown fizzy shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet mineraly, dark malts, oak, hay, minerals, dark sugar, cocoa, toast, grass, weeds, rye, berry skin, bark, sour dark berries, soda powder. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish, berry skin, oak, sour dark berries, soda powder, bloodlike minerals, grass, dark malts, weeds, fruit stones, toast, rye, dark sugar, heather. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry sour-ish mineraly mouthfeel. Not really my cup of coffee.

Sampled @ RBBSG 2017. Red brown color, small head. Smell and taste malts, sweetish, wood, light oak / barrel, light tart, red wine, slightly herbal, but decently bitter. Not a bad beer but kind of weird for an RIS. 8-3-7-3-14.

Thanks to Hamirubi! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG17. Vintage for sur but an unknown one. Black, tanned head. Nose is sour glue red wine plaster & varnish, thinned out. Taste is extremely bitter with sour red wine glue, herbal, cacao, thinned out, weird bitter herbal. Red wine glue & bitterness body. Far too much time in the barrel, honestly not sure as to what they were trying to do here, baffling beer.

On tap. Pours black with a light head of big bubbles. Aromas of dark fruit, old red wine corks, and rich chocolate. Distinct rich flavors follow same with additional dark chocolate, oily roasted malts and soft vinous notes. Wine barrel stouts seem to be difficult to get right - this one is perfect.
