Old rating from 2016 - 500ml bottle, pours copper colour with a thick white head. Aromas & tastes of cereal, caramel, bread, grass & malt. Moderate body. Light bitter finish

One of many Marks & Spencer-commissioned beers, this one brewed by one of those honourable traditional English breweries, Black Sheep. Snow white, initially thick but quickly thinning, membrane-lacing, mousy, regular head, cristal clear warm ‘old gold’ robe with vague apricot tinge. Aroma of strong cooked cotton cloth-like pasteurization, damp straw, old dry cereals, dried radish peel, birdseed, breakfast cereals including the iron effect (though subtle), wet grass, sulfuric note of a freshly struck match, sour plant juice. Clean, fizzy onset, rather neutral and very pale lager-like, cereally with minerally carbonation, very lively but not harshly stinging, slick grainy and pale malt sweetish body, old white bread crust note, straw-like hop bitterness, quite long, dried flower-like and grassy but offering little retronasal aroma, yet welcomingly drying. Cooked pasteurization effects run through the whole beer. Bland, industrial version of a modern English golden ale, and I had much better beers by Black Sheep in general as well.

Bottle on the train from Euston. Some nice bitter hops, but a welcome emphasis on the malt that resulted in a smooth, yet chunky mouthfeel. I could tell without looking at the label that this is made by Black Sheep because of the bitter and slightly jagged house style. Very enjoyable.

Bottle shared. Clear golden amber with a ring white head. Aroma of butter, woody notes, malt and very light fruit. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and bitter. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle shared thanks to kermis. Clear light amber with small off white head. Lots of dry malts, fresh bread, light butter, green herbs, light apricot, mineral, some wood chips. Light sweet and medium bitter. Light bodied.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Manchester. Amber with a small to thin head. Has a full fruity hoppiness, which is a little more stated in its nose than taste, but decent in both.

Bottle from M&S Lincoln. Golden colour with a white head. Typical slight Citrus aroma. Taste citrus and light caramel. Thin body.

500ml bottle into an Abbot Ale badged pint glass tankard at home on 16th april 2016. As the name might suggest, this is a gold coloured beer, the head a large white foaming affair. Mild citrus notes in the nose and taste, some good base maltiness too: happy marriage of flavours, nothing overpowering or different, just a well made blend that is easy to drink and has enough about it to keep you happy until the last drop.

F: average, white, not long lasting. C: deep gold, clear. A: lemon, malty, milky, caramel, bread, sugar. T: 0,5l bottle, malty, bitter hoppy, crispy earthy, lemon, bread, citrus peels, medium body, good carbonated, crisp dry finish.
