Orach Slie (or “Golden Nectar”) is matured in casks from the multi-award-winning, family-owned Glenfarclas Distillery. In contrast to the punchy, dark Ola Dubhs aged in casks from the wild isles of Orkney, Orach Slie is a much lighter, easy-going beer that reflects the softer, sweeter malts of Glenfarclas which nestles in the rolling Speyside moors of Banffshire. Having trialled a variety of different beers, the brewers settled on a lightly-hopped, high-abv version of Schiehallion to perfectly complement the classic, honeyed-sherry malts of Glenfarclas.

Orach Slie pours a light straw colour and immediately displays a delicate malty character on the nose. It has a surprisingly robust, chewy mouthfeel that belies its light appearance, coating the palate with gentle-sweetness which in turn gives way to a pleasantly-bitter, drying (and slightly tangy) finish.

Clear gold pour with a small white head. Aroma is quite sweet, and earthy. Lots of sweet wood, subtle fruit and some distinct cherry notes. Viscous mouth feel for a lager, very soft carb. The finish is lightly bitter with alot of sweet wood and earthy hops, with some subtle whiskey notes. An odd beer.

Bottled@Beer Hunters, Pori. Golden colour, no head. Aroma is cardboard, some sweet whisky and mild floral notes. Flavour is floral, mild whisky and quite much cardboard and some earthy notes. Dull and boring. Felt rather old, and maybe has had a cap leak to as it was rather flat.

Bottle. Golden color. Dried fruit and hints of whisky in the aroma. Apple, pear and hints of whisky in the malty sweet flavor. Oak and whisky are quite subtle, the fruit dominates. Just a hint of vanilla. Expected more from the barrel aging.

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, amber colour with small, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Nuttily malty and fruity hoppy aroma, notes of apple and yellow berries, underlying hints of sherry, a very mild touch of liquorice. Taste is minimally sweet malty, a touch of honey, pear and yellow apple; smooth and soft palate.
