Now that we’re clear of the dirge of winter, it’s time to kick ourselves into high gear and drop a big, and we mean BIG beer. QIPAs have always been a rarity in our output; a style so strong, and so heavily hopped that we keep it back to preserve its mystique.

With the advent of Spring being upon us, we felt there was no better reason to go back to this ultra-challenging style and Turning Fragile is the end result. With a beer this big, you need some serious balance, so a big addition of foundation hop Columbus is needed – touching a g/l in the whirlpool alone not too far away from the total g/l of some of our lower strength pale ales, a solid foundation needs some stupidity on the cold side, so why not go with a huge addition of hyper-concentrated Mosaic Lupomax, along with everyone’s favourite hype hop Nectaron?

A beer absolutely saturated in flavour – big passionfruit, pineapple, peach, tangerine and blueberry notes play off a bubblegum sweetness in this all out show of sheer alchemy from our brew team.

440ml can. Hazy gold/orange, white head. Aroma of ripe mango, pineapple, peaches, a little pine. Taste is the same, ripe tropical fruits, mango, peach, pineapple, grapefruit, sweet malts, some piney bitterness, boozy tingling finish. Full bodied.
Not big on QIPAs these days but this is a really good one, despite the extreme strength it feels well put together and not *too* intense in any aspect.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy deep golden body with an off-white head. No visible carbonation. Aroma of honey, orange, apricot and pine. Flavour of lemon sponge, passionfruit, pine and peppery hops. Full body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is an impressive beer - it drinks as easily as an 8% ABV beer and it’s nearly double the strength.

Bottleshare at CBJ, thanks to me for the can. Hazy gold beer, good persistent bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Airy malts, a good creamy sweetness. Intense hop fruits, intense peel and some some accompanying bitterness. Some juicy pine, citrus and skunk. A little hop spice. Full on as you would expect but, also quite drinkable.

Can split at CBJ Tasting Night, thanks to Kenneth, 09/04/2025.
Murky orange topped with an off white head.
Nose is ripe tropical fruits, mango, hop spice, raw pineapple.
Taste comprises grapefruit, pine resin, dank chimes, guava, mixed tropicana.
Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close splashed with juicy come resinous hop bitterness allied to a balanced boost.
Solid high boost hops ... holds the bitterness well enough without getting sticky sweet.
