Deep dark brown coloured body with a very large, but super fast-fading light brown and tan head that looks like soda and the only real difference is that there is a very small tan lace on the sides, but the head starts high and fades very quickly - as you pour. Aroma of almost all pure sugars here with molasses, pitted fruits, prunes, raisins, figs, earth, caramel, coffee and a bit of pure brown sugar here, all with some moderate yeast and alcohol scents, but the sugars are pungent. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich sugars dominate in the flavour as well with a lot of prunes, plums, raisins, molasses and caramelised sugars all here along with some nutty and earthy components, a dash of yeast and bread here as well with some support from the strong malts, but the alcohol and sugars are pungent here and don't fade quickly. Aftertaste shows the sugars front and centre with a lot of grainy malt support and some earthiness along with a slightly rustic finish, but the sugars show strongly at the end as well and with the alcohol, give a pungent and robust beer, even after three years in the can. Overall, a nice and pungent, strong and flavourful beer that has some moderate complexity, but just a large swath of flavours, most of the strong ones coming from sugar-related notes, but there is some fruit, yeast and alcohol here too of course. A nice beer and definitely good to sample, but not the most robust or complex for the style, but this style covers some great beers! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can (perhaps too large of a format for this one) purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 23-June-2019 for US$3,49 canned on 24-September-2018 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 23-June-2022, exactly three years after purchase.
