Gramarye is the practice of learning magic. For thousands of years, people have used a grimoire (book of magic) to cast spells and summon spirits. Of course, magic fell out of favor over the centuries, the same as brewing with rye. Interest in magic seems to be on the upswing these days, and so is the interest in brewing with rye. A coincidence? This is our take on session pale ale made with a dose of rye malt to give it that luscious feel and snappy finish. We think it is magical.

Pours with excellent big foam and a nice deep clear copper body. The aroma is a well constructed mélange of malt and sharp hops, good pungency coming up. Flavour is plenty of chunky malt and a fair amount of piney hops. Full mouthfeel. This punches way above its weight in terms of flavour for such a low alcohol brew. Very nice.

Tap at Bamboo. Rye weirdness, pine, bit of funk. Quite dry and bit fruity. Interesting, but not as interesting as previous rye beers I've had. Not sure I really get Heretic yet.

Bottle @ Mancave tasting shared with Caesar. Hazy orange golden color, huge foamy white head. Aroma is malts, somewhat hoppy and some fruity notes but the beer is past its prime. To be fair: store owner warned me that it was a bit old. It's still ok and quite drinkable.

Draft at Tap Craft Beer Bar, Robertson Quay, Singapore. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is dry malt, light fruit, grassy hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a crisp, light, slightly watery light grass, nettle, fruit, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

650ml bottle. Pours a hazy copper with a medium, frothy, long lasting, beige head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of rye malt, bread, caramel, orange and grapefruit. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, rye, orange and pine with a crisp, dry, bitter, hoppy finish. Light to medium body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. A tasty, low ABV beer with some kick.

Dwindling orangeish head over orange-copper beer, coldhazed. Orangemarmalade-like aroma, bit of caramel, orangesyrup, sweetish nose. Piney flavour, dry needles, rye; slight sweet impression; fine dry herbs. Medium bodied (!), quite slick. Long-lasting bitterness, dry. Bit lame in the end. Balanced, but...

Keg at Banchory Beer Festival. Hazy amber body with a thin white head. Lively carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of peppery biscuit and blood orange. Flavour follows suit - it’s earthy and spicy. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Lightly spiced and well balanced.
