As much as we love bold, in your face hop monsters and giant barrel aged stouts, we still enjoy drinking a clean, delicate, well balanced lager. We brew our Heretic Lager in the traditional style of a Munich Helles, using only the finest German malts, hops, yeast, and our wonderful local water. Prost!

Toasting Jamil the founder of Heretic who appears to have been pushed out of the company her started… I’m keeping an eye out for more details on that story. Until then I’ll just enjoy the beer. Heretic Lager 5.4% Clear gold, thin fizzy white foam and a seeet grainy malt aroma. Road carbonation and soft medium to light body with a touch of a carbonic bite in the finish. This feels like a craft version of a macro lager, less hoppy than European style pilsners and sweeter. Satisfying clean beer.

Another can o' beer from kahlikfornika. Yep, a lot of fornication goin on over there at the west coast, a whole lottah. Pour is nearly clear pale, just an ever so slight haze. Neutral olfactory. Taste is off hay like. Yes, perhaps has some of the attributes of a macro lager. Its nearly palatable like many mass produced brews. Not bad for a plain old american lager and as a hellis? Well it may be a little less hellis in personality and a little more toward cheap pale. Not bad but I can buy similar american pale beers for 40 cents a can, and this cost $2.25, go figger. In the end I think this may be more a like a cream or light golden lager.

Can from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma is bready with a spice note. Med body or so. Flavor is bready with some moderate Noble spiciness. Towards dry. Mildly bitter. Rather refreshing.

Golden color. Crisp grassy hoppy nose with slight underlying sweetness with excellent toasted malt character. Mouth is more bitter and crisp than I would expect for a helles, but so well balanced with the hops and malt just shining. Refreshing and super drinkable. I thought this was a fantastic beer.

12 oz can. Aroma is doughy, grainy. Pours slightly hazy golden with a one finger off-white head with good retention. Taste has a pleasant herbal bitterness with some light sweet malt character and some faint tartness in the finish. Crisp, clean and refreshing. I've never been a big fan of this style, but this is awesome. The best helles I've ever had, by far.
