Tap at the brewery. Poured a medium chestnut brown with a thin white head. The aroma is dry nutty, woody hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a rich dry woody resin hop bitter, alcoholic palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Tasted like there was more than 9.5% alcohol but it worked well. Nice in a schooner but not one I could drink all night long.

Pours copper with a small head.Nose shows subtle smoky chipotle and light bready malt.Flavours include biscuity malt, soft smoke, light chipotle notes and bready malt.

Bottle. Reddish amber with an inch plus off-white head. Aroma has fairly brash chile, plums, bread, some plastic, earth. Full bodied, moderate carbonation. The elements seem a bit better integrated upon a taste - the plastic is more obviously smoked malt, the chiles have a little heat but are mainly fruity, the earth is still a bit pasture-like but not so feral. Fairly bitter finish and the sweetness doesn’t hang about. Mildly warming, it’s not obvious that it’s the alcohol rather than the chipotles. Liked it more as it sat in the glass awhile, a signal I may have opened it too soon.
