Mixed Fermentation Golden Sour with Scottish Blackberries

Blended from four batches of golden sour beers all primary fermented with different Brettanomyces strains and brewed with locally grown malted barley, wheat and oats. This blend has an average age of four months and provides bright tropical, stone fruit and red berry aromatics. We conditioned this blended beer on 220g/l of locally grown Scottish blackberries (aka brambles).

The resulting beer has an intense red/purple hue, and aromas of a tropical berry fruit medley. We get sweet/sour tangy, hedgerow berries, guava, jammy raspberries and some light tannin from the berry skins.

375mL bottle, pours a hazy dark red with a small off-white head. Aroma has lots of tart blackberries, a touch of bugs, and some earthiness. Flavour is complex, with lots of jammy blackberries, lots of complex bugs, and some soil-like earthiness. Jammy and buggy in great cohesion. Excellent.

Bottle from Against the Grain (I think) Pours deep red with a pink-tinged head. Strong bramble and lemon sour nose. Taste is more of the same. Fruity sour finish.

Tap at BPBW 2025. Red body, pink head. Berry notes, yeah, blackberries I guess, citric touches. Tart taste, more citric/sourish than bramble, somehow not working for me. Still fine, even if I wasn't a fan of the body.

Bottle shared at the craft beer junction bermondsey tasting. Many thanks to Daniel . A light hazed plummy deep red coloured pour with a loose pink head. Aroma is semi sweet, super jammy, bramble, dark berries, yogurty funk, intense red berries. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, super tart, tangy rhubarb, dark berries, prickly sour, intense. Palate is super sharp puckering, highish carbonation. Super intense.

Keg at Fire Pit, Aberdeen. It pours cloudy deep purple with a thick, rugged pinky - white head. The aroma is bright, zingy, tangy, loads of red berry, jammy, tangy, blueberry, bramble, vimto, purple drank and ripe red wine. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, puckering, sour, acidic, redcurrant, cranberry, bramble, raspberry, vinous, sherbet and some tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and finez prickly carbonation. Vibrant and zingy. Fun stuff.
