Gravity cask at the Walsall CAMRA festival 2017. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin whispy off white head. The aroma is big cocoa and not much else. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth dry rich fruity chocolate palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, March 2014. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Big, chocolate character, some oak, charred malts and a dryish finish. Good.

Deep mahogany in hue with a large cream head. Quite a fizz on this one which for me is unbecoming in a porter. Artificial chocolate and antique wardrobes up front. Creamy mouthfeel that heads towards gloopy. There’s a little hint of flowers and citrus behind; the beer could be much improved by strengthening these flavours. At the same time you could maybe cut back on the slightly unpleasant notes of chalk and charcoal in the finish. As you may have guessed, this beer was not for me.

Cask at The White Lady. Dark brown, thin beige head. Big milk chocolate aromas, nothing else. Taste had a light fruitiness but dominate by chocolate - too much for me.

Cask handpull at Lord Moon of the Mall Spoons Whitehall. Very dark brown beer almost black lasting dark beige head. Initial slurp was I wasn’t that keen on this. Artificial chocolate flavour. Milk chocolate like the chocolate on a Milky Way. It settles down a bit but I am still not convinced about the chocolate flavouring

Cask at the Bishop Vesey; dark brown pour with a tinge of red, a creamy beige head, nesquik chocolate milk aroma, taste has fake chocolate and malts, started off OK but got increasingly MOR as I drank it.

Hamilton Hall Spoons. Cask. Clear deep red - amber - brown beer. Small pale tan head. Palate is smooth and dry with mild fine carnonation. Rich dark drinking chocolate powder. Nice tangy dark fruits, plummy. Little bitterness before more dark chocolate. Dry finish. Tasty and pretty drinkable.
