Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Mahogany with a loose cream head and a tawny glow; aroma of deeply roasted malts; sweet chocolatey malty taste with a milky body; and a dry, fruity bitterness to finish. Smooth and satisfying.

Cask at Victoria Station Spooneria, 31/03/14, JDW Spring 2014 Fest Beer #11. Extremely dark mahogany brown with reddish hues and a well appointed tan covering. Nose is roast malt, Bourbon biscuit, rich chocolate. Taste comprises drinking chocolate, cocoa powder, cookie dough, sweet pangs. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet closure. Ok stuff, does what it says on the tin but a little ’1D’ and on the sweet side, would have preferred a little more roasty bitterness to balance this out.

Cask at the moon under water JDW Watford. Dark caramel red colour with a thin lasting greyish tan head. Aroma is sweet artificial coco powder and kamp coffee. Not alltogether unpleasant. Some woody notes in the nose as well. Flavour is is weird mix of sweetened chocolate and butter biting tart coffee. Some berry fruits in the tail end. Powdery coco. Some alcohol bite in the finish. Slightly artificial tasting but balanced enough.

Cask @ Regal Moon, Rochdale. Dark red with a small off-white creamy head. It has a potent aroma and plenty of chocolate within its taste followed by a small bitterness.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW - London. Pours dark brown with a foamy, beige head. The nose holds lots of chalky chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with slightly artificial-tasting cocoa, burnt sugars, earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; pretty good condition. Sweet finish, more phoney chocolate, burnt toast, mild dirt. So so.
