E. is for Edward (1917-2002), my grandfather, as well as the name of the first beer that I brewed in my brewery on March 30, 2010. E. is for Easter; brewing in Denmark revealed a European tradition of crafting Easter (Påske) beer. Finally, E. is for entelechy, the continued actualization of our potential through spirited effort and vision. Thus, in honor of E., to the past and future emprises here on Hill Road: Edward fermented with yeasts of Belgian origin, aged in oak barrels for two years, dry-hopped with Galaxy hops and bottle conditioned.

(Tap sample @ CBC 2016 Red Session, Copenhagen) Pours cloudy medium gold with a beautiful huge white frothy head and lace. Aroma is a full-on blast of fruit, one of the punchiest hop noses I've encountered. Super-ripe peaches, nectarines, apricots, passion fruit, lychee, behind which is a layer of oak notes that surprise me since I don't think it's BA, minerals, and a saison-like pale malt and yeast body. On the tongue, it's dry, crisp and balanced, with that oak-like richness I can only assume comes from yeast. Lots of fruit notes again, ripe peach, lychee, guava, passion fruit, cantaloupe, moderate grain, yeast, moderately bitter grassy hops in the back end. Medium-full body, soft creamy effervescent carbonation. This was a really pleasant surprise even for HF, the hop notes are up there with the best IPAs, massive fruit from the Galaxy. Awesome stuff.

750ml bottle (thx, Reginald D.!) shared with Jamey W. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is funky, fruity and woody, very sophisticated. Taste is similar with lots of funk and barrel notes. Fruity, funky and hoppy aftertaste. Good stuff, as usual :-)
