E. is for Edward (1917-2002), my grandfather, as well as the name of the first beer that I brewed in my brewery on March 30, 2010. E. is for Easter; brewing in Denmark revealed a European tradition of crafting Easter (Påske) beer. Finally, E. is for entelechy, the continued actualization of our potential through spirited effort and vision. Thus, in honor of E., to the past and future emprises here on Hill Road: Edward fermented with yeasts of Belgian origin, aged in oak barrels for two years, dry-hopped with Galaxy hops and bottle conditioned.

Swan Song at Bruce’s. Thanks to Manny G. Hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Nose of mild piss and sweet malts. Palate is airy and semi dry. Decent fine carbonation. Light dry malt cream. Mildly sour orange and lemon. Some peel. Little yeast. Light bitterness in the airy dry finish. Nice flavour and pretty drinkable, the nose a bit pissy.

Bottle, batch 2. Thanks to Manny G. It pours cloudy golden-orange with a small white head. The nose is earthy, doughy, bitter-sweet, pissy, dank, peach, nectarine, apricot yoghurt, manure and light spice. The taste is crisp, tart, juicy, earth, funk, gooseberry, funk, damp leaf, must, spice and mouldy action with a dry, woody finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Solid musty action.

Bottle thanks to agentzigzag! Pours hazy golden amber, medium off white creamy head, nice lacing. Aroma is Bretty, musty, citrus and grapefruit notes as well. Reminds me of Anchorage Brett strain. Flavor has a light bretty funk, lightly bitter with plenty of citrus notes. Minerally, as is my usual impression of HF beers, perhaps a very light saltiness at the end. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. This is a hell of a beer. I wish I could buy it in six packs.

Bouteille 750ml. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen-dense, texture ample.

750 bottle, vintage 2014. Glowing bright yellow color with thick lasting head retention. Aroma is baby diaper and funky ass Brett, light citrus.
Flavor shows me dusty yeast, barnyard hints upfront with a Brett and citrus in the center. Finish has a citrus rind, grass and Brettanomyces. Medium body with a soft creamy carbonation. Complex funky citrus flavor, anybody who likes lightly funky brews with enjoy this a great deal. Layers of funky Brett.

Thanks to AdamJackson. 750 ml. bottle sampled @ ZBF 2014. Pours a hazy bright golden with little head. Nose is incredible, very intense fruity passion fruit and pineapple punch, peaches, mixed with crisp brett and bretty white wine. Smell leads you to believe that you are going to get a fruit cocktail upfront in the taste, instead you start of with slightly bitter zest, white pepper, esters, plenty of bretty white wine, followed by citrus, juicy pineapple and peach. Faint tartness. Effervescent, very easy to drink. Truly outstanding.
