This brew is based on a historic recipe from the 1640’s called Purl. Purl was also known as Wormwood Ale which included orange peel and leaves from the senna plant.

By the middle of the 19th century Wormwood was replaced with gin, sugar and other spices such as ginger and nutmeg, and this new Purl was sold on the Thames by Purl-Men from the Purl-Boats.

So how did we make our Purl? We took an all UK hop bill and then added 150 kilos of orange zest, adding just enough crushed ginger to give a gentle kick. The brilliant heat from the ginger compliments the sweet bitterness from the orange peel adds to the mellow, spicy backbone of our all British malt bill.

0,33 boks fra Statens leskebutikk i Straensenteret, hjemme: nesten helt klar lys gylden med fint skum som varer. En deilig IPA med liflige humletoner - tropiske frukter, mandaring (og furunål), akkurat slik som beskrevet. Fin bitterhet i avslutningen. Slank, forfriskende og særdeles velfortjent etter 2,5 timer som ekstrahjelp i innhøstingen på Sandalen gård (gleder meg til de kommer med årets Rubinstep-cider!).

Pours a hazy pale gold, with a frothy white head and a fruity aroma, mostly orange with some lemon and lime featuring as well. Slightly creamy and fizzy mouthfeel, with a bitter edge to the citrus fruit flavour, and a sweetness in the finish

Pale golden ale, slightly bubbly, thick foamy white head. Sharp, slightly dry citrus hop aroma. You definitely get a good, bittersweet orange flavour to this as advertised and it's always a nice change when a pale leans into orange as its flavour. There's some grassy hops in here too. Not a big complex flavour but it's crisp, fresh with maybe something floral or a touch of spice in the back end. Very drinkable indeed.
