The Kernel brewery in London is known for making delicious beer without following trends. Famous for their incredible 3% table beers and known for executing all beer styles with precision and quality, they truly are pioneers of the craft beer world. We had the privilege of having Jess over to brew a beer with us and we decided to nail the infamous style of London Porter together. Taking inspiration from recipes dating back to the mid/late 1800s we treated this style as if time had stood still. Recreating London water and using exclusively British ingredients were key in crafting this recipe, as well as using our house blend ale yeast for that distinct Stigberget’s flare (although technically lab yeast hadn’t yet made its way to England until the 1900s…) The final result is a distinctly rich beer full of character and flavour, and a testament to the cult status of both the London Porter and The Kernel.

awesome roasted malts and coffe aroma. not sweet, dry, dry.
Flavor is about the same. lots of roasted malts and lots of coffee. tons of flavor for a 6% abv and nearly no bitter caramel or other off flavors. Especially when it was cold, it was a beast, warming up i did get a tiny bit of bitter caramel, which i don't like much. This is a really good beer. when cold it's the best.

Can. Color: Black, very large brown head. Aroma: Roasted malt, some coffee, earthy. Taste: Very smooth and dense mouthfeel. Roasted malt, subtle coffee, earthy, floral hop backbone. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Dry finish. Typical traditional English-style Porter. Very nice.

Can shared by Marko. Very dark colour, clear, beige head. Med-thin body, med carbo. High bitterness, med-light sweetness. Assertive roastiness, med-high deep roast, not very coffeeish though, rather ashy. Also medium cocoa. Overall quite dry though. Light earthy hoppiness, and a touch of clean yeast and light minerally watery feeling. True on every level, an instant classic. More stouty than portery but that is what it is. Very good.

Can, enormous thanks SaintMatty! In honor of Martyn Cornell! Shared with Gurthnar, Ondra V, and Barba&Elena. Very dark brown body, fleeting thick off-white head. Chocolate cake, citric, bit herbal, lightly toasty, coffee notes, absolutely lovely aroma. Smokey, roasty, soft but quite light aroma, dark chocolate, soft floral, herbal hoppy touches, somehow sparkly, bit watery, medium-low bitterness. Quite drinkable! Excellent to be fair.

Can picked up at Mikkeller & Friends Bottle Shop and drunk at home. Nice collab with Kernel here. Dark roasted malty with notes of chocolate, some dark caramel, coffee roast, singed brown sugar sprinkle, very nice hoppy backing coming through, nice mouthfeel and body, roasted dry and hoppy finish. Great stuff.

Flaska. Väldigt mycket kaffe! Både bönor och sump. Salmika i eftersmaken. Viss syrlighet. Tyvärr förstörs ölet rätt mycket av en alldeles för hög kolsyra. Blir lite väl fizzy.
