A 100% Brett Black IPA from the 8 Wired Brewing Co. in New Zealand. A rather uncommon combination of styles - very interesting indeed.

Bottle. Little Leeds Beer. Clear, deep ruby red. Tan suds on top. Nose has liquorice. Ripe berry. Flowery, herbal hop. Notes of coffee bean and green leaf. Some tar. Taste is fruity sweet. Some light, yeasty, funky dryness. Some roast malt bitterness. Oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Roast bitter finish. Doesn’t come together, for me. Maybe the brett hasn’t done its thing yet. Not great.

Bottle. Very clear gold with a white head that settles to a good coat. Aroma of both old and zesty oranges, mango skin, shoe polish. I think it only smells funky by association. Quite sweet with lots of fruit. Interesting the way I can’t really tell what’s aromatic hop and what’s not - the citrus melds with tropical fruit and nectarines. Doesn’t dry out much and bitterness is moderate. A bit of zingy spice at the end. I’m skeptical of 100% brett but this goes a fair way to addressing that. Interesting and pretty good.
