334ml bottle into glass. Dark ruby red beer with thin tan head. Slight slight malt nose. Watery flat mouthfeel with mild sweet nutty finish. Disappointing and not one I will be revisiting.

0.334l bottle @ Umami. Looks as you'd expect, black there in the glass, a light foamy grey head on top. The nose is what I would describe as soft. Some thin chocolate and roasted dry malts. Other than that I can't really say that I get anything from this. Taste is just the same really. Feels light oily on the mouthfeel with an average carbonation level. Dry, slightly sweet and roasted with hints of coffee. Not to memorable at all this one. The food however! 11.01.2014

350 ml can from Maruetsu. Was looking for something interesting but they didn’t really have much choice, so decided to try this one out. Pours actually nice, pitch black with a foamy, beige and long-lasting head. Leaves some nice lacing on a glass as well. I was expecting to get some roast in the aroma but nope - it is actually surprisingly fruity and fresh. I get something synthetical only when I sniff it third time. Taste… well it’s not so special. If I had blind-tasted it, I wouldn’t have been able to tell this beer is dark. It has carbonation, moving on to some sweet malt character and dry aftertaste. Something synthetic in the background. I’d like to know what was the brewer thinking when he decided to brew this one. Maybe something like this: "Why don’t I make a beer that tastes like Asahi Super Dry but looks dark?". It is a bit better than your usual Asahi - but only marginally so.

Can from the convenience store. Drunk from the can, a thin to medium body & a roasty malt aroma. The taste has some mild coffee & chocolate notes. Better than I expected but it is just a toned down schwarzbier. An alright choice if you’re stuck buying from a konbini.

Draft at brewery - Very light roast malt, may also be me wishing for it. Actually a bit of black current. A bit of roast and again that dark berry sweetness. Thin and better than the lager, but not a real dark of any sort.
