Made with Styrian Dana hops and infused with real pumpkin, the new ale is our first bitter specifically brewed for Halloween and offers a real autumnal flavour. With a burnt, smoky character, balanced with light citrus flavours, Pumpkin Ale has a lingering bitter finish. It’s also made with three types of malt – standard, crystal rye and black malts.

The Hain Line, St Ives. Cask. Pretty much a clear amber beer with a small off white head. Palate is smooth and dry with fine carbonation. Sweetish malt and sweetish pumpkin and a little nuttyness. Whisper of spice. Finishes semi dry with mild peel bitterness. Interesting and quite drinkable.

Cask, handpump Monday 4th November 2013 from White Horse, Banbury; Oxon, at Banbury Beer Festival mtg Pours chestnut brown with very good clarity. A robust malt forward beer, hops are virtually non-existent, a little spice, caramel, mmhh.. perhaps some pumpkin I am not too sure. Its fine and in good nick, half was enough though. Cask @ Wheatsheaf (JDW), Stoke. Clear brownish copper. Nice head. Aroma ok. Metallic and medicinal. Taste: not much there. A bit bland and sour. Un-pumpkinlike. Bitter finish. Don’t see the point of this beer. A reasonably empty experience.

Hand-pulled pint in the Skegness Wetherspoon’s (The Red Lion) on 24th Oct 2013. Poured a reddy/brown deep amber colour with a medium density white head. The aroma was a mixture of toasted malts and semi-smoked peat with old fruit peelings. Taste wise it perked up a bit: mild caramel notes with less smokiness and more fruit hints, without old peel. Overall not too bad, it was the weakest of this years beers in the Wetherspoon Autumn Beer Festival and had enough character to stand along side plenty of beers with a higher ABV.

Cask at the Kings Highway, Inverness, 18/10/13. Clear golden with a good sized off white head, good lacing ensues. Nose is toasty malts, fruit tones, hint of caramel. Taste comprises tangy fruit, light citrus, cantaloupe melon, soft bread dough. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, light fruity finish. Ultimately an innofensive number but in fine fettle from that their spoons cellar which probably upped the score for me.
