Connoisseurs will recognize the ‘oxymoron’ or the apparent contradiction in the beer’s style and name. An unfiltered Helles is, by definition, a contradiction. We find this tension incredibly intriguing, as it mirrors the duality of our brewery: our beers are iconic and steeped in tradition and authenticity, yet we also enjoy pushing boundaries to appeal to the adventurous beer drinker.

A slightly hazy pale golden yellow beer with a white lacing. Aroma of intense grainy malt, straw. Taste of dry grainy malt, straw, cereals, moderate bitterness.

Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma of light malt, bread. Similar taste. Grass. Perhaps a faint amount of Belgian yeast.

Bottle from the LCBO here in Toronto. Decently thick malt, with a mild sweetness, toasty hay, with mild bitterness on top. A nice example of the style.

Bottle from Systembolaget. I really didn't quite understand the point of this. Sure it delivers a little more Belgian profile to lager, which gave it a satisfying ending but it didn't stand out.

Bread, caramel nose with skunky overtones. Hazy amber, medium head. Caramel, lemongrass, bread crust. Medium body moderate carbonation. Elements of both an ESB and Helles. I like it.
