Our second flagship beer was an effort to bring the American Porter style to the Charleston market proper, while also making a beer that stays appealing as the mercury rises.

Sampled on draft this beer poured an almost black color with orange highlights and a large foamy tan head that left very good lacing. The aroma was malty with coffee, cocoa and wood. The flavor was wood, malt, nut, cocoa, caramel and a hint of coffee. Long finish. Medium bodied and smooth.

From the can at Fish Camp on Broad Creek. The nose is chocolate, cinnamon, pecans, and mild coffee. Sweet and malty, with a touch of bitterness. Medium body, with a creamy, syrupy mouthfeel. This is a mellow and overly sweet porter, but fun.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a little char, a little roast. It fits the bill. Flavor is exactly like the aroma. Some char and roasted malt with just enough sweetness before the swallow to not make this a super dry porter. This was a decent low alcohol porter, the malt stood out and this did not end up being thin and watery.

Draft. Poured a cola color with a small head. Aroma was roasted malts, light nutty notes. Caramel, light chocolate. Nutty flavor. Easy to drink.

Rather weak porter, watery and light with an off-putting metallic undertone. Main characteristic is the roasty backbone, bitter and smoky, yet there’s little else going on to play off this base; a yeasty, tangy-cherry middle overwhelms the brew, leaving the finish with a coffee-ish bitterness that seems empty and thin. Not good. No canning date, so judging by the other reviews either this can’s old as hell or something has gone horribly awry.

Bottle, thanks to Misterburd. Pours inky black with spongy beige head, coffee beans aroma, low carbonation, sweetish mocha taste, somewhat thick body, long mocha finish. Very smooth and mellow, satifying.

Dark brown coloured body with a bit of a clear brown glow and a decent, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of earth, light nuts, malt, peanut butter and a bit of caramel and unfinished sugars. Medium-bodied; Malty flavour at first with a hint of peanuts, some light earth and some cardboardie flavours that finish with some definite breadiness and touches of yeast. Aftertaste has more of the same with the malt hitting first, then some subdued earth notes and finally a bit of unfinished sugars and yeast. Overall, a decent beer - showing some good qualities, but overall, about average. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Charleston Beer Exchange in Charleston, South Carolina on 19-April-2015 for US$1,79 sampled at home in Washington on 05-May-2016.
