Intense and warming, a meal in a bottle.
One can not help but appreciate Samuel Adams Double Bock's huge malt character. We use an enormous amount of malt, half a pound per bottle, to brew this intensely rich lager. Its deep brown-ruby color is all made in the kettle - no black malt is used, resulting in a rich sweetness that is free of the rough taste of burnt malt. All that remains is the velvet smooth flavor and mouthfeel of the two row malt. Samuel Adams Double Bock's intense malt character is balanced with a subtle piney, citrus hop note from the German Noble hops.

A dirty hazed brown bock with a thin mocha head. In aroma, loads of dark fruits, cherry liqueur, musty and powdery character, a bit cloying. In mouth, a sweet caramel and cherry drink, with warming alcohol, a bit lacking in body, but overall, interesting.

355 ml bottle @ The Rover. Pours very hazy dark reddish brown with a very small nougat head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is very sweet and malty with sweet dark bread, pears in cognac, alcohol, caramel, burnt sugar, wood, oatmeal cookies, golden syrup, biscuits and hints of acetone. Taste is sweet, malty and tiny fruity with sweet dark bread, biscuits, golden syrup, wood, vanilla fudge, pears, apples, alcohol, caramel and hints of resins and cookie dough. Mouthfeel is round, sticky sweet, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet with caramel, wood, vanilla fudge, alcohol, pears and cookie dough. Quite nice...

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark amber with a ruby hue and a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Lots of caramel and sugar. Taste is medium sweet. Caramel and sugar with a bit of dark fruit. Alcohol with raisins and orange. Medium bodied with a sticky and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, pretty good. Now I’m wishing I would have bought the whole 4-pack instead of just the single with the upcharge.

Mix of herbs, caramel, dark bread, dried fruits and a sweet touch. Herb-like presence is more felt as it warms.

Bottle at tasting, pours a cloudy orangey amber with a big beige head. Aroma of fudge upfront, caramel malts, toffee and candied fruits. Flavour of fudge, chocolate malt, toasted bread, caramel and dark fruits. Quite a thick palate with rich flavours. Very nice.

12 oz bottle from a four pack. Bert’s Better Beers. Pored hazy amber into a mug. Good rings of lace. Nose is sweet with caramel malts, and some underlying alcohol. Flavor is sweet, with notes of caramel, dried fruits, and malts. With good amount of sugar and toffee notes. Mouth feel is almost heavy with a syrup like stickiness. After my second bottle the ABV make itself known. However it is only noticeable when warm. Well made.
