Dark brown with a lovely ruby hue to it and a frothy tan head. Fruit malt and chocolate on the nose, pretty light bodied with roasted malt up front, hints of smoke maybe, with a dark fruit flavour, a kick of coffee bitterness ahead of a dry, fruity finish

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Dark chestnut to black with a tiny beige head. Chocolate syrup and liquorice at first, followed by stewed plums and cream and café latte. Quite a dry finish, with a mild roastiness in the aftertaste. Not bad this one, and grew on me the more I drank it.

Cask at Calverts Court, Stockport. Pours very dark reddish-brown with a small foamy tan head. There’s a slightly off-putting aroma of roasted malts mixed with potatoes and cabbage. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth with a creamy texture, though somewhat watery as well. Flavour is roasted malts and strong coffee, with some hints of liquorice coming through later. Finish is a blend of sweet and bitterness. This is decent, but takes a bit of getting used to.

22/1/2022. Cask at the Blue Bell, Werrington, Peterborough. Pours very dark brown with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, berry, chocolate, vanilla. Moderate sweetness, tartness and body. Slightly oily, soft carbonation. Tart camp coffee finish. Maybe not as intended.
