2nd February 2011
Opaque brown beer, residual tan head. Fairly neutral palate but low carbonation. Light smoke on the nose. Tangy dark malts well blended with smoke. A little fruit underneath. All right.

Bottle from RadioMGB, thanks! Deep dark brown color. Malt and beechwood smoke in the aroma. Malty flavor with peach. A slight tartness with loads of beechwood smoke. Peach, melon and pineapple in the finish. Lovely!

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has primary notes of chocolate, but also lighter notes of smoke, rope, and tar. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, beechwood smoke, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, roasted, and bitter finish.

Smoked with peat. Moderate malt, and very dry. Dark brown color, medium palate. I really like the dry, smoky, earthy character of this beer.

12 ounce bottle purchased at Fromagerie du Marché Atwater - consumed out of a hotel wine glass - pours dark ruby, nearly black, with a soapy lace - wonderfully smoky, woody aroma, with caramelized sugars and toasted marshmallow, tobacco, charred oak - chocolate - creamy, full mouthfeel - perfect balance of choco-sweet malts, charred character, light tartness, leafy tobacco - a little vinous character late - fantastic beer.

341 ml bottle from HogtownHarry! Nose of cherrywood smoke with some chocolate notes; very dark clear brown with a medium tan head; flavor has some medium smokiness, burnt toast, and some chocolate. Smokier than I usually like smokeds, but not overpowering and gross as some are. As you drink more the smoke flavor fades and more chocolate appears; finish has smoke and a light bitterness.

Almost no head, greige rim; near-black beer. Inviting smokey-phenolic nose. Smoked bacon/sausages, but also campfire woodsmoke, ironoxide. Dry-woody taste, with lots of tobacco-ashes, point of chocolate. Only faintest of smoked meat esters here, no fattiness, just dry & phenolic. Warming up, it gets more and more Islay malt-like, which doesn’t spoil a thing! Very rounded, soft-velvety MF, just a touch chewy. Is it the conditioning? The bottle? Or the other beers tasted at LCRBM07? Anyway, this seems to come out better than the Unfiltered version! Grand merci encore à mon pote Sylvain!
