Scotch-Style Ale Brewed with Candi Sugar and Coriander
Scotland is known for its bagpipes and its beers, and this Scotch-style ale adds Belgian Candi sugar to the mix, giving it deep notes of toffee and dried fruit accented by the spicy herbal aroma of coriander. The eleventh verse in our 12 Days of Christmas Series, 11 Pipers Piping is an extra smooth and malty, full-bodied jig of a beer.

My next to last 12.7 oz bottle from The Bruery's 12 Days of Christmas collection, it comes in a style I am not bowled over by. A snifter ready to go, I tilt the bottle. The appearance is a dark chestnut brown followed by a thin cover of beige foam. I smell caramel, grain and ripe plums. The drink is bread, cardboard, sorghum, a bit of toffee, malt and a small cane sugar sweetness. Not one I seek later.

Sample at Palace Hall 13/12/2025 Malmö December tasting - sweet malty notes of caramel and toffee, some iced and brown sugar sprinkle, medium body, sweet malty finish.

Tap at KEG. Dark copper pour, off-white head. Nose is sweet malts, bready and hay-like, caramel, booze. Taste is sweet booze, low spices, bready malts again. Not too complex, but pretty pleasant. Closes with sweet finish, has light - too light imo- body, has soft carbonation, drinks waaay below the ABV.

Draft pour at Dominion Wine and Beer. Poured a nearly pitch black color, perhaps dark cola around the edges of the glass. Aroma was big sweet malts, candi sugar. Big molasses notes. Warming bourbon. Smooth.
