Our friends over at Kentucky’s own Willett Distillery have one kind of barrel: wood. And they put two things in them: Bourbon and Rye. We were fortunate enough to get some of their Bourbon barrels, and we put a special coffee-fied version of our Imperial Stout in them.

On tap at Chuck's - Greenwood. Pours black with an off-white head. Nice bourbon and roasted malts on the nose. Flavour has a pretty big bourbon barrel up front, good roasted malts underneath, strong espresso. Very nice.

Bottle at home. Opaque black color, small brown colored head. Aroma and flavor are malts, light dark malts and roast, nicely bitter, some umami notes. Decent body and firm carbonation. Nice.

Tap at Harry's Hofbrau. I remember liking previous versions of this more. Aroma of nice chocolate, booze and vanilla. Black with brown head. Flavor is overt roasted coffee, pitch and chocolate. Ashy roast detracts a bit here on both mouthfeel and flavor.

Bottle at home. Pours jet black with a thin beige head. Nose is booze and mainly bourbon, some chocolate, more coffee, some molasses. Taste is chocolate, booze, lots of molasses, light coffee, vague dried fruits. Moderately sweet. Closes with an abrupt finish in which the booze gets more apparent, the body is way too thin for this abv and it shows all the way. Not bad, but way too thin. It's not the first relatively highly rated classic US stout that's pretty highly rated here but I found kinda underwhelming... Old Rasputin, Oh! Fudge, Founders' Breakfast Stout and KBS for instance were all far from what I hoped they would be. Oh well.

From tap at Lagunitas TapKabinet, Amsterdam. Aroma is roasty with fairly strong bourbon, equally potent vanilla, warming alcohol, oak, coffee, and liquorice. Bittersweet boozy flavour, thick body. Tasty and heavy with just a little too much liquorice to take this into the higher regions of the style.

(Bottle, vintage 2019, 12.4%) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black bread, oak wood, whiskey, black coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, treacle, hazelnuts and vanilla. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with notes of coffee, oak wood, whiskey, dark bread, liquorice, dark chocolate, caramel, treacle, hazelnuts, vanilla and a warming, vinous finish with a fairly low roasty bitterness. Almost full body, sweet. Rich, warming and tasty. Great beer!

Multiple bottles from a 6-pack from Livonia Liquor. Pours a deep brown with a finger of dark beige head that lingers. Coffee focused nose with bourbon, dark fruit, tobacco and leather. Smooth on the palate with lovely notes of oak, dark chocolate, coffee and more tobacco. Drying finish with lingering bourbon, baker's chocolate and coffee.
