Blended Barrel-Aged Ale

Madness & Civilization is a panorama of our barrel aging program—oak-aged beers that emerge from their individual silences to find structure and voice as a unified composition. This is the result of an unpredictable state of permanent happenstance—a dialogue with our evolving approach to blending that challenges convention and circumstance. Each release will include multiple threads and is likely to approximate the style of an imperial stout.

Release #8 is a blend of whiskey and bourbon barrels ranging from 20 to 24 months. Components include Aaron, Double George, Genealogy of Morals, and Everett.

Thx! 500 ml. bottle sampled @ a Samson & Gert Tasting. Aged sample. Bottled 2016 12 14.Dark brown with no head.Nose is warming, almost varnish alcohol, bourbon, faint plastic, basic chocolate. Taste is basic chocolate syrup, basic cheaper chocolate, mocha, finish is surprisingly alcoholic, quite boozy, some bourbon, quite alcoholic finish,... Basic chocolate syrup & strongly alcoholic body. Raw, too unbalanced, surprisingly boozy. Not the best.

Bottle at RateBeer Best. Pours black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong roasted malt, dark chocolate, wood. Thick, chewy, roast, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla, light boozy finish, very nice.

500ML. Split 3 ways at cellar temp.

A - Completely black. Nice alcohol legs, 2 finger coffee colored head that sticks around at one finger.

S - Smells amazing. Damon & Everett had a baby (that reads odd. sorry). Either way, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and cookies.

T - Taste is even better! Amazingly delicious. a load of coconut and vanilla with a sweet bourbon finish. Milk chooclate, hershey’s, cookies, slight bitterness at the finish.

M - Really substantial almost syrupy texture with a solid carbonation.

O - This could be one of my favorite madness beers

500 ml bottle, thank you AdamChandler. Comes black with a small white head. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, coffee, and malt.

Taste is smooth and rich. The bourbon hits mild right up from, roasted coffee, and light figs. The body is nice, fuller body, smooth texture. Very nice!

Bottle pour at RB Best. Very soft and smooth on the palate. Not a huge bruiser like some of the other big barrel aged stouts at the fest despite the 11% ABV. Great chocolate, coffee and bourbon notes. Little smoke. Very tasty.
