BA Imperial Baltic Porter

An indulgent imperial Baltic porter aged in Madeira casks for 16 months.

Taste: The first sip explodes with a delightful mix of toasted grains, caramelized sugars and bright red berries, reminiscent of a warm homemade cherry pie. Bit by bit the character of Madeira starts to unfold and flows over the palate with notes of sun-kissed grapes, dried figs and chocolate ganache, balanced by a peppery hop bitterness and exquisite oak tannins.

Appearance: A mahogany brown beer with a dense beige head.

Nose: Rich and toasty, with a wave of dark chocolate and mocha notes interwoven with the warmth of toasted almonds.

Malts: Pilsner zero, Munich light, Low colour Maris Otter, Carafa special T-2, Chocolate rye, Caramel pale, Caramel 300, Oat malt

Hops: Magnum, Columbus, Northern Brewer

Draught at Monk's: pours black with beige head. Whiskey, vanilla, some light bozziness, chocolate. Taste is somewhat sweetish, lightly boozy, not bitter. Fairly large. Nice.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, frothy to creamy, fading, dark beige head. Roasty and chocolately, dark malty, minimally vinous fruity and woody aroma, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, a touch of dark toffee, hints of red wine, blue grapes, some cherry, some oak. Taste is roasty and chocolately, dark malty, vinous fruity and slightly woody, notes of dark chocolate, couverture, a touch of dark toffee, hints of red wine, blue grapes, some morello, cherry, a touch of plum, some oak with a minimally tannic touch.
Minimally viscous, but somehow acid thinned and therefore alltogether still watery texure, smooth and slightly cloying, simultaneously minimally dry and repellent palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation.
Clean and focussed, very pronounced and distinct flavours, some subtleties nonetheless; seemingly light and almost drinkable or better: a "high frequency sipper" - very good.

kihoskh#24 very well balanced slightly dark fruity barrel aged aroma, raisins , roasted malts. really smooth and balanced aroma with emphasis on the notes from the barrelling, but not boozy. Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, faint dried dark fruits (the madeira barrel aging no doubt) faint charred wood (same). The beer was taken off the barrels at the right time, it is very well blended and balanced but also with a lot of flavor notes. it tastes like it is at the point just before oxidation might become an issue. ripe.. great beer. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Kihoskh Winter bliss on 05 Jun 2025 at 12:51 - Score: Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 7.5 | Flavor - 8 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 8.5. Roasted malts, dark chocolate cookie, brown sugaryboozy note
Salty and barrel aged flavor , poultry sure what exactly was in the barrel, I mostly get ham and perhaps a sweet whisky or rum. Pretty well balanced imp porter, also decently complex with tge salty woody notes.

Panda at home, thanks to Sir Kenneth of Essex, 27/10/24. Pitch black with a khaki head that thins to a swirl and edgeing in time. Nose is rich roast, raisins, molasses, chocolate shavings, mellow madeira tones, dates, dark malts. Taste comprises fruit cake, light spice, dark malts, chocolate, raisins, dates, mellow port soaked oak, figs, toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced spike of alcohol. Solid easy drinking BA affair.
